How should I find my inner happiness?

Question: I am 30-year-old, professional successful man and there is nothing major I can complaint about my life. I have a good social circle, nice job and a loving family. But somehow I feel lonely at the end of the day. I try to keep myself busy by focussing on my hobbies and traveling, but I tend to feel empty sometimes. Why am I feeling this? Can you guide? What else can I do to find my inner happiness? – By Anonymous

Response by Ms. Rachana Awatramani: Happiness is usually confused with ecstasy, bliss and other intense feelings. However, it is contentment in life and also living a meaningful life, which can differ from person to person.
I comprehend that you are 30 years of age and successful man. You are fortunate enough that there is not much to complain about from your life. However, you feel empty and lonely by the end of the day. You also have a good social circle, nice job and a loving family but you feel there is something missing. I can understand that it might be challenging for you to cope with this situation. I see that you are putting efforts to cope with your situation by keeping yourself busy and focusing on your hobbies. You also tried traveling to distract yourself but it is not helping you much.

Firstly, I would recommend that you spend some time with yourself and understand what happiness means to you. Secondly, try and find a purpose by adding meaning to your life. You can consider doing volunteer work in the area of your interest. Finally, you can consider meeting a counsellor who can guide you with your self-development and help you understand yourself better.

If you are an animal lover, you can also consider animal assistant therapy or have a pet home. Sometimes you want to come back home and experience the feeling of belongingness. family.
